THE CLIPSPLAT TUTORIAL

Your recording target

The linked guide reports a 60-minute Feed limit. Your Instagram account or upload method may offer less.

Other Instagram formats

The reference guide also lists Live sessions up to 4 hours and DM videos up to 60 seconds. ClipSplat records files; it does not broadcast an Instagram Live session or include a dedicated DM preset.

Adapted from SocialCal’s video length guide. Its 90-second Reel figure differs from the January 2025 announcement of 3-minute Reels. ClipSplat’s limits are app settings, not a guarantee that every account can upload that length.

FROM RECORDING TO MP4

Follow the six steps.

The steps start collapsed. Click a numbered heading to expand it; its compact summary reflects your current settings.

  1. Format & framing

Choose Reel, Story or Feed portrait. For a 20-minute recording, choose Feed. “Fit entire video” preserves the whole picture; “Fill · center crop” fills the frame and trims its edges. Choose a Video frame to surround the actual video with Cinema Classics, Vintage Film, Instant Classic or Instant Scrapbook artwork. The camera preview and exported MP4 use the same frame window; opening, closing and image cards retain their own frame choices.

  2. Opening Panel

Enter your creator name and choose a panel color, then set your opening title, image, frame and duration. Use 0 seconds to skip it. Preview the panel and drag its text into place. Creator name and panel color are shared with the closing panel.

  3. Record

Enable your camera, allow browser access, then press Record and Stop. Or choose a video already on your device. Choose the format before recording a long video: the recording stops at that format’s duration limit, allowing time for your panels and cards.

Use the trim start and end fields to set the part you want to keep. Save your original recording before leaving.

  4. Add images

Add one or several images to appear between sections of your video. Each card has its own title, image, color, frame, duration and insert time. Images automatically fit the largest available area without cropping: tall infographics use the panel’s height, and wide images use its width. Optional titles, creator text and decorative frames reserve their own space. The video pauses while a card appears, then resumes. Cards have silent audio.

Insert times refer to the remaining video after cuts, excluding the opening, closing and other cards. Cards at the same time play in list order. Set duration to 0 to skip a card.

  5. Closing Panel

Set the final message, optional image, frame and duration. Use 0 seconds to skip it. Preview the closing panel and adjust its text, font and size. Opening and closing settings are independent except for creator name and panel color.

  6. Share

Use Preview all to check the sequence, then Create MP4. Keep the tab open while it encodes. Download the finished MP4 and upload it in Instagram, or use Share video when your device supports it.

MAKE IT YOURS

Move and style your text.

Preview an opening panel, closing panel or image card. Click the title or creator text box and drag it to a new position. Arrow keys move the selected box; hold Shift for a larger move.

In Panel text beneath the preview, choose the text box, font and size. Sizes are pixels in the exported video. Leave the size blank for automatic sizing. Use the icon buttons for bold, italic, and left, center or right alignment. Highlighted buttons show the active settings. Each panel and each text box keeps its own settings, including in the MP4. Reset text layout restores the selected box’s default position, font and automatic size.

Add a title to an image card or enter a creator name to make those text boxes appear. Use the frame picker for illustrated Paint Party, Celestial Magic, Botanical Garden, Scrapbook Memories, Sunset Waves, Watercolor Bloom Gilded Deco, Celebration Gala, Starlight Dreams, Artist Studio, Cinema Classics, Vintage Film, Instant Classic and Instant Scrapbook borders, or the simple Movie night frame.

Does the guide appear in the saved video?

No. “Keep key content here” and text selection outlines are preview aids. They disappear from the MP4. Your chosen decorative frames are included.

KEEP THE GOOD PARTS

Click to preview. Drag to select.

The timeline shows your remaining video after cuts. Its selection times exclude panels and image cards. Opening and Closing are hidden when their duration is 0.

DETAILS THAT HELP

Format, privacy and saving.

Video output

MP4 with H.264 video, AAC audio and 30 frames per second. Silent sources receive a silent audio track. Panels and cards count toward the selected format’s total duration.

The safe-area guide is approximate. Instagram’s interface and cropping vary across placements; inspect the upload preview before posting.

Your files stay local

Recording, trimming and encoding happen in your browser. ClipSplat does not upload your media or require an account. The first export downloads the local encoder from DrawSplat, about 32 MB.

Projects are not automatically saved. Keep the original recording and finished MP4 before closing, refreshing or leaving the editor.

Longer projects

Source files and finished MP4s can be up to 1 GB. Long exports take time and depend on your device’s available memory. A 60-minute format limit does not guarantee that every device can encode a full hour.

Use a desktop browser for long recordings, keep the tab open, and save the original as soon as recording ends. Long Feed exports control the video bitrate to keep file sizes manageable.

Images and language

Images can be up to 15 MB and 40 million pixels. Accepted formats include PNG, JPEG, WebP, GIF and AVIF. GIFs are used as still images, not animations.

The editor offers English, Spanish, Vietnamese, Arabic, Chinese and Hindi/Urdu. Switching languages preserves titles you have edited.
