School accounts and teaching
District classrooms and rosters
District administrators create classrooms and assign school accounts. Teachers share assignments; students turn in their own work. These workflows use the district MariaDB/MySQL service.
Administrator: prepare school sign-in
- Complete district installation and save the administrator credentials privately.
- Configure a Google web client ID, your actual authorized JavaScript origin, and allowed school domains as described in Google sign-in setup. The browser ID-token flow does not need a client secret.
- Open District roster administration, connect to this installation’s saving API, and sign in with the administrator account created during setup.
The public drawsplat.org site does not provision your district’s accounts or database. Use your school’s deployed address.
Add teachers and import CSV rosters
Add a teacher and classroom using the form, or import a CSV. Required columns are teacher_email,class_name. Optional columns are teacher_name,student_email,student_name. Repeat the teacher and class on each student row.
- Export your roster using the required headers. The file limit is 1 MB and 2,000 rows.
- Select the file and choose Preview import. Check teacher, class, and student counts; preview writes nothing.
- Choose Import roster and check the resulting classes and users.
- Reimport when adding members. Repeated rows do not create duplicates. Imports add memberships; omitting a student does not remove their access.
CSV import links existing Google identities by school email; it does not create Google accounts or distribute passwords. Test with actual rostered teacher and student accounts. In district roster-only mode, public registration and classroom invitation links are disabled.
Teacher: share an assignment
- Open the school whiteboard. Choose Options → Get Started with Your School and sign in with your rostered school account.
- Build the board prompt. Open File → Online classrooms and select your class.
- Choose Share current board as assignment and give it a title. Sharing creates a snapshot; your private board remains separate.
- Ask students to open the same school installation and sign in with their own accounts.
Student: open and submit work
- Open File → Online classrooms and select an enrolled class.
- Choose Open assignment, complete your board, and return to its classroom.
- Choose Turn in current board for the correct assignment and confirm.
- Use Your submissions and feedback to reopen your submitted work and read teacher feedback.
Opening an assignment or submitted work loads a copy into the workspace. Save any unsaved board first. Students see only their own submissions.
Teacher: review work and manage access
In the classroom, use Student submissions → Open submitted work, then Give feedback. Use View class roster to check membership. Removing a student’s access preserves previously submitted work for the teacher; reimporting their row can enroll them again.
When a class is missing
- Check that you opened the district address and signed in with the exact rostered school email.
- Confirm the district imported the teacher/class/student rows and configured the correct Google origin, client ID, and allowed domains.
- If sign-in succeeds but no class appears, ask the district administrator to check membership. Do not request the database password or the installation setup key.
Privacy and shared devices
Sign out when finished and follow the school’s device-data cleanup routine. Browser autosave and file downloads can remain after sign-out. The Apps Script Compliance Console does not automatically retain, export, or delete district database classroom records; the district must establish and test those procedures. See compliance and district review.
